Loxahatchee River

The Loxahatchee River Paddling Trail offers a scenic and more challenging route for kayakers. This 8.5-mile trail takes you through lush wetlands and palm trees. Two log dams can be crossed or portaged depending on water levels. The upper section is narrow with sharp turns, so shorter canoes or kayaks are recommended. Local outfitters provide information on river conditions and water levels for a safe experience.

The trail ends at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, where you can continue your outdoor adventures with activities like biking, hiking, and boating. The park also offers exhibits and ranger-guided tours of Trapper Nelson's cabin, a historic site that was once a popular tourist attraction. Don't miss out on exploring the tannin-stained waters of the Loxahatchee River and immersing yourself in its serene beauty.

Okeeheelee Park

Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, Florida offers a variety of amenities and activities. With multiple entrances, the park provides easy access to facilities like baseball fields, bike paths, a BMX track, and boat launching areas.

Other features include a dog park, equestrian center, golf course, nature center, fishing areas, mountain bike trail, multipurpose fields, picnic areas, pickleball courts, playgrounds, restrooms, softball fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, walking paths, and water skiing courses. The park also offers rental facilities for activities like kayaking and wakeboarding.

With over 200 animals, including reptiles and exotic species, visitors can have a unique opportunity to observe up close and learn about these incredible creatures.

The sanctuary offers guided tours for visitors to explore the eight lush acres of endangered wildlife. Please be advised that reservations are required for the tours, so this is a trip to plan in advance if one is to take part in all that McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary has to offer. 

One of the highlights of visiting McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary is the hands-on programs for kids of all ages. These programs are designed to promote education and raise awareness about wildlife conservation. it's a great opportunity for children to learn about animals, their habitats, and the importance of protecting our natural world.

When planning a visit to McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary, know that the facility is open to the public five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday. However, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays. Unfortunately, children under the age of five are not allowed to ensure the safety of both the animals and the young visitors.
